About the Item
This charming hair ornament was handcrafted in the second quarter of the 19th century. The hairpin is decorated with a butterfly made from small facetted steel nails that were riveted onto a brass base plate in the shape of the butterfly. Each nail has been carefully polished. The lower part of the wings are made from large facetted polished steel elements also riveted to the brass baser plate.
The insect is fitted with an articulated joint that has been riveted to the hairpin made out of horn.
