About the Item
This hair comb was handcrafted in the late 1830's, the engraving in the centre is typical for the design of the second quarter of the nineteenth The design of this hair comb features a grooved edged terminating in half balls on either side. Underneath the outer ornament we see an engraved garland motif decreasing in size towards the edges. under the garland motif we see a repetition of the ball motif, also decreasing in sizer towards the edges. This silver comb is marked with the head of minerva accompanied by a 2 in a barrel outline on the left outer tooth. This mark indicates a silver content of 800/1000, making the comb stronger. The minerva hallmark is in use since 1838. Despite having been in use the comb is in surprisingly good condition.
