This is a rare pair of antique 19th Century Silver Birth Announcement Umbilical Clamp Stork Scissors.
The Silver birth stork scissors served as a birth announcement and were used to cut or clamp the umbilical cord. The scissors date to the 19th Century.
The scissors were placed on the chimney mantle according to tradition. Thus, if the lady of the house was expecting, then everyone could see. These scissors were also used to cut or clamp the umbilical cord after birth. What a wonderful gift for your beloved who is expecting or for a doctor, or Obstetrician, or Midwife or health care provider!
