Wonderful antique Victorian sterling silver crescent moon brooch with floral engraving, and featuring a lovely chain and rope twist design. The crescent moon and two end bars are gilded in rose gold. The brooch has English hallmarks, stamped with a lion, an anchor, and the date letter is 'S'. The makers mark is AJS for Arthur Johnson Smith. This means that the brooch is sterling silver, assayed in Birmingham, and is dated 1892. Measuring length 4.1cm / 1.6 inches by maximum width 8.5mm / .33 inch. The clasp works well. We have given the brooch a light clean.

A fine and impressive antique Victorian 2.90 carat sapphire and 0.92 carat diamond, 9 karat yellow gold and silver set wreath brooch; part of our diverse collection of sapphire brooches.
This stunning, fine and impressive antique brooch has been crafted in 9k yellow gold with silver settings.
The circular wreath style setting is encircled with ten impressive claw set pear faceted cut sapphires, totalling 2.90cts.
The sapphires alternate with ten paired leaf decorated settings, each incorporating two pavé set diamonds, in a combination of Old European and eight cuts.
The upper border of the brooch is further ornamented with a tied ribbon bow design, accented with two further pavé set diamonds, completing the design.
This Victorian brooch secures to the reverse with a hinged pin and catch, benefitting from the added security of a safety chain.
The brooch has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 9 karat gold and silver.
The brooch is supplied with an IDGL diamond and gemstone grading report card.
Such period brooches bearing this cut of sapphire are unusual and indicates the high quality of the piece.
