About the Item
An impressive antique 0.82 carat diamond and synthetic ruby, 18 karat yellow gold dress ring; part of our antique gemstone jewelry collections.
This impressive synthetic antique ruby ring has been crafted in 18k yellow gold.
The feature claw set synthetic ruby* displayed to the centre of the multi-claw 18k yellow gold setting, is flanked by four Old European round cut diamonds.
The plain ring shoulders blend smoothly with the plain 18k yellow gold shank.
This impressive ring is supplied with an IDGL diamond grading report card.
This fine ruby ring has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 18k gold.
NOTE * In 1837 Gaudin made the first synthetic rubies by fusing potash alum at a high temperature with a little chromium as a pigment. Natural rubies and synthetic rubies look very similar on general observation. Synthetic rubies have a different internal color banding and crystal structure which can only be identified under specific test conditions.
*NOTE: Contrary to what many people may think, the word 'synthetic' does not mean fake when it comes to gemstones. In order for a material to be called 'synthetic' it must have a natural counterpart. A synthetic ruby will have the same chemical composition as a natural ruby and therefore have an almost identical appearance to the naked eye.
The first ruby formed by melting two smaller rubies together was in 1817, and the first microscopic crystals created from alumina in a laboratory in 1837.
Common practice was to set and enhance fine quality antique jewelry with vibrant and colorful synthetic stones.
Images do not always reflect the true color and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual color and showcases each stone.
Condition
This antique ring is fine quality, set with very high color graded old cut diamonds.
The ruby ring is a good gauge of gold and is in excellent condition, with minor wear in keeping with age. The ring has been priced accordingly.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine example of antique jewelry.
