About the Item
The Irish Claddagh ring is a traditional Irish ring originating from the fishing village of Galway and part of a motif of rings called Fede rings, Italian for "faith", or mani in fede, "hands joined in faith". Hands clasped around the heart signifies friendship, the heart symbolizes love, and the crown signifies loyalty or fidelity.
It is the superior hand-work of this claddagh ring including the detail work on the cuffs, the charming hand carved heart, that makes this claddagh exceptional. The ring is in immaculate condition and has a solid look and feel to the hand carved heart and hands.
According to Irish lore, the Claddagh ring is worn on the right hand with the crown facing outwards if one is single, and with the crown facing inwards if one is in a committed relationship. Upon engagement it is worn on one’s left hand with the crown facing outwards, and for marriage it is worn on one’s left hand with the crown facing inward.
The ring is marked 9 "carat" and was therefore made in the UK.
This ring would make a lovely engagement or wedding ring or special anniversary ring.
