About the Item
Late Baroque period 15K polished gold betrothal ring engraved in a lovely calligraphy with the name 'Gunter' and dated 1712. This was likely one of a pair of rings exchanged between two people to commemorate upcoming nuptials. The name Gunter has its origins in Germany and means 'battle warrior'. In Germany, the spelling is Günter with an umlaut denoting the German pronunciation. The date 1712 has a strike through the 7, common in Europe, to help distinguish it from the number 1. A rare ring to have survived for 3 centuries in such remarkable condition. The hand engraving script is quite beautiful.
