About the Item
The Irish Claddagh ring is a traditional Irish ring originating from the fishing village of Galway and part of a motif of rings called Fede rings, Italian for "faith", or mani in fede, "hands joined in faith". Hands clasped around the heart signifies friendship, the heart symbolizes love, and the crown signifies fidelity.
According to Irish lore, the Claddagh ring is worn on the right hand with the crown facing outwards if one is single, and with the crown facing inwards if one is in a committed relationship. Upon engagement it is worn on one’s left hand with the crown facing outwards and for marriage it is worn on one’s left hand with the crown facing inward.
Our ring is hallmarked 1970 and is a size 10, marked for the London guild with leopard's head and 375 for 9 carat gold (all part of the hallmark, the purchaser's guarantee of authenticity).
