About the Item

Our Renaissance era religious devotional ring has its original shank of rich high carat gold with bright enamel colors in the form of circling fish. The fish is symbolic for both Christianity and Judaism. The ichthys, often seen carved on Roman tombstones, is the oldest Christian symbol and represents Jesus and his followers. Christians used it to recognize other faithful during times when they faced persecution in the Roman Empire. The fish also has great significance in Judaism, as the water that envelopes fish is said to provide protection from the evil eye. As the eyes of fish never close they therefore symbolize the protective gaze of God. The term "ichthys" is based on the first letters of the Greek words for Jesus Christ. The ring is a size 4.25.
