About the Item
Antique "Ring of Heavens" or Bague au Firmament blue enamel and diamond ring.
Made circa 19th Century and is most likely of Iberian (French or Spain origin). It has been set in silver pinched collet settings with fourteen (14) rose cut diamonds around the edge and in the centre one (1) rose cut diamond set in a flower shape. Beneath the rose diamonds is a Royal blue enamel ground. 19th century rings like this were known as “bagues au firmament”, or “rings of the heavens”. Such rings, made popular by Marie Antionette (Queen of France). History: The "Bague au Firmament" or "Ring of the heavens", was a style popular in the late 18th and 19th Century based on a ring originally designed for Marie Antoinette, gifted by her husband Louis XVI upon the announcement of her pregnancy with the future Dauphin of France.
The blue enamel was intended to evoke the night sky, and the diamonds the stars.
Details: Measuring approximately 26mm (1.02 inches) north to south and width 22mm (0.87 inches). We cannot estimate the diamond weight due to the type of setting, but they are natural rose-cuts, with a bright sparkle.
Size: 7 USA (54 EU), it will likely fit a bit smaller though due to the width. Resizable.
