Vintage European Cut Diamond Wedding Set with Appraisal, 1.30 ctw

About the Item

Offered is a lovely late Deco to Retro period (1930's to 1940's) diamond wedding set, with an estimated total carat weight of 1.30 carats. I've just had an independent appraisal done which will accompany the set for your insurance purposes. Both rings are 14K white gold, with classic period style settings. Worn as a set for many years, they were purchased in San Francisco by the previous owner, who was likely the second owner of the rings. - the Engagement Ring: A wonderful European cut diamond (very close to a transitional cut diamond with its tiny open culet) is the centerpiece of the set. Extremely fiery (what I fondly refer to as a "fireball") the diamond has a lovely cut and great brilliance. Measuring approximately 6.45 - 6.5 x 3.7 mm, the diamond is estimated at approximately 1.00 carat, with H color (near-colorless) and eye-clean SI1 clarity. (no dark carbon and nothing to interfere with the scintillation of the diamond) Both the diamond and the "fishtail" style setting remain in great condition with no damage. To either side of the center diamond are two small single cut diamond accents for an additional estimated .10 carats. Each measure approximately 1.8 - 2 mm in diameter, with color and clarity matching that of the center stone beautifully. The diamonds are in very good original condition with no nicks, chips or scratches and only a little expected wear to the prongs. The face measures approximately 14.8 x 6.58 mm with a rise off the finger of approximately 6.07 mm. With a knife edged style, the band remains in good condition, retaining an interior mark of "14K." Slight signs show the ring was sized in the past and done skillfully. Currently a size 5.75 on my sizing mandrel, it fits a little generously and may be sized up or down within reason by a good jeweler. If it is sized up, I would expect more gold to be added at the back to keep it sturdy for daily wear. - the Wedding Band: Dainty and sparkly, the band features 7 small single cut diamonds measuring approximately 1.7 - 1.9 mm in diameter, with H-I (near-colorless) color and eye-clean SI1 - SI2 clarity, for a total of approximately .20 carats, bringing the set's total estimated carat weight to approximately 1.30 carats. Some diamonds have a few minor chips along the girdle that can't be seen with the naked eye; the prongs show a little expected wear. Approximately 13.74 x 2.96 mm with a rise off the finger of approximately 3.07 mm, the knife edge style band sits nicely with the engagement ring. Some people prefer to solder their wedding set together, but I have also taken photos of the rings individually, should you like to keep them separate. Worn hand engraving remains inside: "G.W.H. to R.W.M. 12-21-46." There are slight signs of sizing at one shoulder, so as not to disturb the engraved inscription. Together the rings have a combined weight of 3.16 of my scale. The included appraisal currently shows a replacement value of $7500 for the engagement ring and $1200 for the wedding band.
