About the Item

Victorian five stone ADORE ring which spells out the first letter of each gemstone in the following linear pattern: Amethyst-Diamond-Opal-Ruby-Emerald. message ring similar to REGARD and DEAREST rings, ADORE rings were romantic message rings that conveyed a personal message of eternal love to the wearer. The Victorians were all about romance and sentimentality and band rings which spelled out romantic words in gemstones, were immensely popular. Our ring is hallmarked for the Chester guild in England, 18 carat and was made in the year 1842. It is a size 8 1/4- 8 ½. The gemstones are old mine cuts except for the opal which is cabochon. ADORE rings are the rarest of the message rings and with stones in such immaculate condition, rarer still.

C1880 18K Five Stone Almandine Garnet Ring
Located in Baltimore, MD
The five stone 19th century ring design is one of the most enduring Victorian ring styles today. The Victorians designed five stone rings using every gemstone and combinations of gemstones imaginable. Our ring has 5 polished flat cut almandine garnets set into a gold border and open in the back allowing in light and air. The gold work between the stones allows the ring to be worn alongside other rings without damaging the stones. We love the scroll detail on the shoulders. The half hoop ring design and original hand drawn renderings is shown in the last image and was duplicated from the 1896 catalog of EW Streeter, with further credit to Diana Scarisbrick's book Rings: Symbols of Wealth, Power, and Affection. The ring is a US size 6 and is approximately 4 cm high. It is shown in the images alongside an almandine garnet single stone locket...
