LATE GEORGIAN ROSE CUT DIAMOND CLUSTER RING (Europe Ca. 1830)
Wheel of fire! Eight rose cut diamonds encircle the central diamond. Resembling a star or sun, a mound of silver encases the central diamond with eight pointed rays trailing down the sides.
In the 18th century (and prior) one of the most beloved of all stone settings was the cut down or rub over - perfectly illustrated in this ring.
The cluster ring adorned with an array of glistening rose cut diamonds arranged in a flower shaped face. The centre stone is approx. 0.35ct with eight 0.10ct petals surrounding it (approx. 1.15ct total).
The diamonds have been foil backed to increase their sparkle and collet set in a large silver face which is all antique from the late 1800s. Shank which features beautiful floral engraving down both shoulders.
Tested silver over 18k Gold. Silver has beautiful patina. The flower head formation on 18K Gold decorated with pretty detail.
Total weight: 10.9 g
The top measures 5/8 inch diameter (19mm). Rose-cut diamond-set shoulders, currently ring size 7 1/4.

The 18K/19K yellow gold (touchstone tested) ring is centered with a rose cut center diamond between 0.85 - 0.95 ct., Portuguese origin, the lush floral and foliate motifs are very typical of the Portuguese Romantic era (1830 - 1880) often used in men's and women´s rings. As it is mounted and closed at the back it is not easy to establish its depth. in a pinched collect silver setting, surrounded by finely chased gold rococo style scrolls.
Estimated total diamond measures 7.3mmX6.3mm approx. (deep cannot be estimated due to the setting).
