About the Item
Pink is one of the rarest sapphire colors, caused by trace elements of chromium inside the corundum crystal, the same which colors a ruby. This Contemporary Pink Sapphire Halo Ring, made in the 21st century, would be stunning as a cocktail ring or engagement ring. Symbolizing intense love and compassion, pink sapphires are a most romantic stone ideal for engagement rings. And with a hardness of 9 out of 10 on the Mohs scale, the stone is suitable for everyday wear.
The ring is crafted in 18K white gold and features an oval faceted pink sapphire of spectacular size, measuring approximately 21.23 x 15.20 x 11.93 mm, with an estimated weight of 32.32 carats. The sapphire is accompanied by a report the America Gemological Laboratories (AGL) stating that the natural corundum fancy sapphire is of pink to orangy pink in color with excellent transparency, of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) origin with an indication of low temperature thermal treatment. Fancy sapphires are commonly heated to modify their color and appearance. According to the report, this stone has not been enhanced for clarity.
There are numerous optical effects present in different gemstones. It is noted on the report that this fancy sapphire exhibits color shift which is extremely rare. Color-changing gemstones appear as different colors under different kinds of ambient lighting. Gem and jewelry collectors prize color-shift sapphires. The most prized specimens are the ones that exhibit strong color shift and have good cut and clarity, like this spectacular stone. The beauty of a Ceylon sapphire is breathtaking. For over 2,500 years, Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, has been mining sapphires, most famously blue, but also pink, yellow, green, and violet earning the country a sterling reputation in the industry. Most Ceylon pink sapphires are often found in smaller weights—under 2 carats—making this 32.32 carat specimen quite special indeed.
The oval pink sapphire is held with four sets of double talon prongs in 18K rose gold which provide a delicate contrast with the stone, surrounded with a geometric halo of white diamonds which alternate in elevation and angle. The sparkle continues partway down the band with graduated pavé-set round brilliant-cut diamonds. The weight of diamonds for the ring is an estimated 2.93 carats total. Examining the ring from the reverse shows the superlative artisanship of the cluster setting which allows a great amount of light in behind the principal stone and supports the diamond halo with a beautiful openwork structure. From the front, the diamonds are held with platinum talon prongs which melt away, leaving nothing but sparkle.
Size US 6.5, can be resized. Center oval Ceylon low-temperature heated sapphire 32.32 carats; accompanied with AGL certificate. Diamond weight approx. 2.93 carats total. Overall weight approx. 16.36 grams, made in 18k white and rose gold. Circa 21st Century.
