About the Item

Very fine royal blue large sapphire that has been examined by the leading American gem laboratory for colored stones: A.G.L., American Gemological Laboratory. Set in platinum and flanked by 4 long baguette cut diamonds, measuring 7.3 mm. These diamonds, which are identically cut are unusual because they are so long. Our internal gemologist has graded the diamonds as having a near colorless grade (one grade from colorless), G, and very slightly included to the first degree. Many times, as is the case with this very special sapphire, Pierre/Famille will design a hand crafted mounting, as we have done here. The 8 prongs are well shaped to hold securely the important center stone, but also have a fine silhouette. The diamonds are channel set closely so one sees no gap or metal. The Sapphire is accompanied by a Certificate from the American Gemological Laboratories, indicating it has not been enhanced by man - it is unheated and untreated. This Report is older (as this sapphire is from an old mine in Ceylon). The examiner, who is now retired, Mr. Cap Beasley, was President of A.G.L., he is highly regarded, international respected, and lauded as a leader in the knowledge of colored stones. This particular color is not one that is frequently encountered. It is even, bright, clean and with a tone that is neither too light nor too dark. The stone itself dates to the 1950's and cut at that time with a fine facet pattern which is also pleasing and difficult to encounter. This sapphire is clean with even color (no empty spots), it also possesses fine proportions. This is an important factor, as one does not want to purchase a stone which, for example, is a 5 cts sapphire but "faces up", as a 4 ct. because much of the weight is in the bottom of the stone.This ring is a size 6.5 and can be resized. Please note our model has a medium to large size hand. Today, a preponderance of jewelry is machine made in large factories around the world with abundant and obvious suspicions as to its enduring qualities using not only inferior stones, but also man made stones and treated stones utilizing artificial substances. Alternatively, this hand made ring possesses fine fancy cut diamonds and a natural gem quality large sapphire. All items sold are accompanied by a detailed Statement of Value by our gemologist, as well as all original gemological documentation, if specified in the listing. As always, we guarantee all pieces to be exactly as represented. Each piece of jewelry arrives in a gift-wrapped fine presentation box.
