About the Item
With what I believe to be a figural satyr on each shoulder, this blazingly unusual silver and green chalcedony ring is fronted with a lush buff-top and beveled-edged chalcedony gemstone. I have only seen one other ring even remotely similar to this one and it came from Hanau, Germany. The rings are similar enough —and the hallmarks equally obscure— that I suspect this ring was created in the same location. What I know for sure is that this whimsical, elaborately-detailed ring is a true stand-out. I believe it dates to the Art deco era, circa 1930.
The expressive figures on each shoulder —that I am calling satyrs— have deeply carved features. The band tapers and at the rear bears three marks I have not been able to identify.
The approximately 15.79 x 12.38 chalcedony gem has a smooth, high-polish top and a bevel that runs all the way around. Very sleek. It's bezel-set and there are small pine-crust crimps all the way around. It's a very distinctive setting and another unique feature of this ring.
Currently a size 8 ¾, this ring could be resized by your local jeweler.
