About the Item
This antique signet ring was created in the last quarter of the 19th century. It is made out of 14K yellow gold. The heliotrope or bloodstone is cut in the shape of a shield and set in an open backed setting. The ring shoulders delicately follow the outline of the shield. The shank is decorated with finely chiseled and engraved scroll work. On the inside of one of the ring shoulders the ring is marked with an impressed 14K mark within a rectangle. In certain books on minerals heliotrope is associated with protection, inner peace and healing.
