About the Item
This is a gorgeous antique Turquoise Ring with a Pearl Halo. In the center is a stunning 19mm by 14mm by 5mm Turquoise Cabochon. The ring is from the estate of Hollywood Legend Mary Lou Daves and was a gift from her husband, the director Delbert Daves. Ms. Daves' jewelry exemplified her exquisite taste. Her jewels were unique, dramatic and elegant. The vivid oval Turquoise cabochon is of such lovely color and has great warmth and luster. The turquoise is surrounded by a halo of 15 silvery white pearls of great beauty. The pearls are 4-5mm in diameter. The jewels are set in a wonderful 14 Karat Yellow Gold design with the pearls set in cut down collets. The gold is a warm antique yellow gold. And Turquoise is all the rage today.
The dramatic ring is 1 1/8 inches (28mm) long and 1 inch (25mm) wide.
The ring is 14 Karat Gold.
The ring is currently a size 4.25 US (I UK) and can be easily resized if desired.
The ring weighs 11.2 grams.
Provenance: The ring is from the Bel Air estate of Delmer and Mary Lou Daves where a who's who of Hollywood legends (Cole Porter entertained guests at the piano) were entertained and was a gift to Mary Lou from her husband. Their love story began on the set of the 1938 film, "Professor Beware." As a successful contract writer for Warner Bros., Delmer Daves wrote the screenplay and wanted to visit the set to see how things were going. 19-year-old, Mary Lawrence was cast as the Bride. He was instantly smitten. "So you're playing the bride? I wish you would marry me," he quipped. "I shall answer you with the same spirit you asked me. Of course I will be yours forever." The two were married for 39 years, had three children and a lifetime of adventures.
His career spanned 40 years during which he wrote and/or directed 80 movies including:
Love Affair (1939), Destination Tokyo (1943) , Hollywood Canteen (1944), Dark Passage (1947), Broken Arrow (1950), Birds of Paradise (1951), The Last Wagon (1956), An Affair to Remember (1957), 3:10 to Yuma (1957), Cowboy (1958), A Summer Place (1959), The Hanging Tree (1959)
He was a genius, renaissance man, student and tinkerer.
She had an enduring acting career in film and television and became an author in her later years rallying her famous friends to share their thoughts on famous art works in, "Lovers: 100 Works of Art Celebrating Romantic Love..." She was a lover of art, family, beauty, traveling, entertaining, fashion and many causes.
