About the Item
An antique diamond, silver, and yellow gold ring, comprising fifteen old cut diamonds, set in silver, to a band of 18 karat yellow gold.
This head of the ring is marquise (or navette) shaped. A beautiful boat-like shape, the marquise cut diamond is said to have been invented at the commission of King Louis XV of France, who wished for a design to resemble the lips of his mistress, Madame de Pompadour. The shape is beautifully elegant, and stretches up the hand, elongating the finger. The largest diamond is at the centre of the ring, with a smaller diamond above and below, which are surrounded by an array of larger diamonds, creating the marquise shape. The diamonds are bright, white, and sparkly, and are well-matched with one another. The diamonds are set in silver, as was the fashion in the Victorian era, to accentuate their fire. The diamonds are a mixture of old European cut, and old mine cut diamonds, which have a wonderful depth of sparkle to them. The shoulders of the ring display a reeded domed shape, almost appearing as if a shell, which lead to a substantial band of yellow gold. The ring is in excellent condition and is supremely well made. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The head of the ring measures 24.5mm high, and 12mm wide. The band measures 2mm wide at the back.

Ring size: UK – N US – 6.75 EU – 53.75 mm. Due to the size of the head of the ring, this ring could accommodate a slightly larger finger size, up to a size UK – N.5 US – 7 EU – 54.25 mm, without needing to be resized.
