About the Item

This is a museum quality Art Deco Egyptian Revival masterpiece. The ring is adorned with a central Scarab carved in Banded Agate of great beauty. The Scarab is accented by two Old Mine Cut Diamonds of .1 to .15 Carats each. The diamonds are set in Egyptian pyramid form settings. The ring is 10 Karat Gold. The extraordinary and very rare Art Deco ring dates to circa 1920-1930. The ring is centered by the stunning carved banded agate scarab. It is a luscious carved gem scarab and is 13 mm by 10mm. The scarab has fabulous carved details creating its head and wings. The scarab is accented by two Old Mine Cut Diamonds of incredible sparkle and fire. The diamonds are set in wonderful pyramid form settings further enhancing the Egyptian Revival elements of the ring. The jewels are set a jour (open backed in order to let the maximum amount of light through). The setting is 10 Karat gold with stunning open work flower motifs. For centuries, Ancient Egypt has held the fascination of the public and continues to inspire artists and designers alike. With the discoveries of Egyptian tombs, and the treasures within, in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the exotically opulent lives of the Pharaohs were beyond anyone’s imagination. Of all the precious objects unearthed in the tombs, the lavish jewels were perhaps the most fascinating for their extravagance and never-before-seen symbolism. The Roaring Twenties and the period’s Art Deco jewelry embraced the vivid contrasting colors, motifs, and symbols more daringly than ever before. Whether the jewels were complete, faithful reproductions or real artifacts preciously decorated in similar style, the Egyptian Revival jewelry during the Art Deco era is the most lavish and magnificent. Scarab Symbolism: In ancient Egypt, the scarab beetle symbolized creation, transformation, and rebirth, linked to the daily journey of the sun. Scarabs were potent protective amulets, believed to ward off illness and bring good fortune to the living. The scarab is carved from a banded agate measuring 13.20mm by 9.60mm and 6mm deep. The diamonds are antique Old Mine Cut Diamonds of .1 to .15 Carats each. The ring is a size 8 US and can be easily resized if desired. The ring is hallmarked 10K. The ring weighs 7.9 grams.

Hermes Mercury Hardstone Cameo Ring Classic Victorian Agate Gold Deeply Carved
Located in New York, NY
Indulge in a superb museum quality Victorian - Belle Epoque deeply carved hardstone Cameo Ring depicting an image of the god Hermes or Mercury in a spectacular high relief carved agate and set in a beautiful and elegant Etruscan Revival setting in 10 Karat Gold. The ring dates to circa 1850-1880. The agate is a stunningly beautiful color. The ring features the most beautifully carved high relief cameo of the Greek God Hermes, known as Mercury to the Romans, with his fabulous face with his winged helmet. His face is an exquisite rendition in the hardstone of the handsome god with his curly hair, elegant face, winged helmet, and wonderful neck and shoulders. I love the way the artist has created his nude form in the cameo. The carving is very deep 3-dimensional design attesting to the extremely fine quality of the work. The setting is beautiful with the repousse adornment of the band in the Etruscan Revival style. Antique hand carved cameo...
