About the Item
Art Deco Odeonesque Old Mine cut diamond geometric ring in 18 karat white gold, signed, Portugal, 1940s. Designed as a three-dimensional rectangular plaque that resembles a picture in a frame, this beautiful geometric ring features two Old Mine-cut diamonds set to the center within a border of 18 smaller similarly-cut diamonds, all stones to an open-back grain setting with a closed gallery, flowing through to a polished white gold shank. Odeonesque rings are so called because their tiers of gemstones are reminiscent of the tiered seating in the music and picture halls (often called an “Odeon” from the Greek meaning “song”), which became popular in Europe from the 1910s onwards.
Diamonds: approximately 2.50 carats in total – main diamonds approximately 0.85 carats and 0.92 carats, H color (assessed), SI1 clarity (assessed). Finger size: 50 (EU) but it can be sized up or down. Gross weight: 8.6g.
Lisbon “ant” assay mark (used 1938-1984) for 19.2kt white gold; Lisbon “rooster head turned to the right” (used 1938-1984) for jewelry; Portuguese maker’s mark “C” for Carlos Augusto de Sousa (son), registered in 1923 and ceased in 1973.
This item is in good condition, with marks and scratches consistent with general age and wear. Antique, period and vintage pieces, both signed and unsigned, are being offered as worn.
