About the Item
In the style of Art Deco, this ring features a central bezel-set 0.86 carat round brilliant cut diamond, surrounded by calibre cut natural rubies in a ring mount crafted entirely of precious platinum. An elegant under-gallery features graceful scrolled platinum filigree. Adding to the delicate detailing, millegrain decorates each platinum rail between the rows of natural rubies. Though contemporary, this ring has been made with the same level of attention to detail as a genuinely antique Art Deco jewel.
Synthetic rubies and sapphires were first developed in 1873 and were favored by Art Deco designers to achieve their geometric designs; the uniformity of the gem material allowed designers to create machine age jewels with exquisitely matched gemstones. The Art Deco period derives its name from a 1925 Paris exposition celebrating the chic new geometric style emerging after the end of WWI. Freer style was celebrated and women who embraced the flapper lifestyle refused to return to societal constraints, instead choosing liberated style and self-expression with exuberant jewels and looser clothing. Glittering jewels were a joy following austerity measures during the First World War. This ring is contemporary, but made faithfully in the Art Deco style; even the reverse of the ring is intricately detailed.
Hallmarked for platinum, this ring weighs 8.2 grams and is a finger size 7 ½.
