Inspired by Empress Theodora, wife of Justinian I, she was widely regarded as the most powerful woman in byzantine history. During her reign Hagia Sofia, the great basilica later turned mosque that dominates Istanbul, was built. The collection draws reference from the use of mosaics and colour in this architectural wonder as well as in Theodora’s personal adornment. It taps into the rich colours of Byzantine Art whilst maintaining a modern and contemporary feel.
