Country of origin: France Style: Victorian Period: ca. 1900 Material: Two tones of precious metal, the main part being 18K yellow gold and the white parts are either white gold or platinum. Technique: Although the back of this jewel is in yellow gold, the gemstones are set in 18K white gold/platinum. This finds it origin in a much older period where it was common for diamonds to be set in silver. The silver on gold technique: This technique was very often used with jewelry containing diamonds because jewelers of that time believed that only a silver mounting could render the true beauty of a precious stone. They were also aware of the fact that silver jewelry often left black stains on clothing or skin, so they resolved the matter by coating the backs of the jewels in gold. Extra information: Opal - Opals are found in many colors, ranging from clear to white, gray, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, magenta, rose, pink, slate, olive, brown, and black. A stunning antique 2.71 carat diamond and 12 karat yellow gold, platinum set pendant; part of our diverse antique jewellery and estate jewelry collections. This stunning, fine and impressive antique pendant has been crafted in 12k yellow gold with a platinum setting. The segmented pierced decorated, fan-shaped design is embellished with millegrain decoration. The tapering portion of the design is ornamented with an impressive feature individually collet set Old European cut diamond to the centre. The upper portion of the design incorporates nine further Old European cut diamonds in an arched arrangement, each to the nadir of a petal shaped setting accented with a further Old European cut diamond, graduating in size dependant on location. The trellis design encompassing this central arrangement incorporates nineteen pavé set diamonds, in a combination of Old European and eight cuts.
