Agrigento, known as the city of temples and one of the most prosperous in Magna Graecia, was praised by the poet Pindar as "the most beautiful city of mortals." Situated at the convergence of the Akragas and Hypsas rivers, it thrived from both agriculture and maritime trade.
This coin eloquently captures the essence of Agrigento's dual relationship with land and sea through its engravings of a sea eagle and a crab, symbolic creatures of the region. Additionally, these figures may pay homage to the Greek deities Zeus and Poseidon.
