A modernist cocktail ring designed by Gregory Mikaelian.
This is a fabulous oversized modernist cocktail ring, created in America by Gregory Mikaelian, back in 1970. The gorgeous ring has been crafted with substantial weight in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with the surface treated with textured couscous patterns. The ring is embellished with a huge massive cabochon carved from natural Sardinian coral. This ring is impressive, a statement and one-of-a-kind,
The Sardinian Coral
This is a treasure chest in the splendid sea of Sardinia, that holds countless riches such as the Corallium Rubrum, or red coral, a Coralliidae family widespread in the Mediterranean and the Eastern Atlantic. In general, it grows up to 200 meters in depth, in poorly lit places and with poor vegetation. The Sardinian coral has a bright red or pink colour and creates branched colonies that may exceed 20-30 cm in height and lives in distinct living conditions: constant salinity and reduced movement of the water and attenuated illumination. It thrives in shady and sheltered places, such as caves, overhangs and fissures between rocks, usually at a depth between 20-30 meters and 200 meters, but at times it can be found further toward the surface
About This Mediterranean Sardinian Coral
The carved coral displayed in this ring is magnificent, from the Sardinian region in southern Italy. The carving display exceptional salmon red saturation, with even color and unspotted surfaces. Red corals like this are branch-forming coral species found in the Mediterranean Sea close to Sardinia and is one of the most valuable of all precious corals.

Coral: Mount on top in a bezel setting, with 1 oval cabochon cut (24 x 18 x 12 mm) carved from natural Sardinian Coral of about 37.65 carats, (by formula).
Birthstone: Coral for the month of October.

Size: 6.5 and may be easily sized up or down on special request.
Measurements: 27 mm by 23 mm (1.06 x 0.92 Inches) and raise 12 mm over the finger.
Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark, the mark for the assay and warranty of the .750/.999 gold and signed as follows, "GREGORY 18KT".
Collateral: This ring by Gregory Mikaelian is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box.
Condition: The overall condition of this ring by Gregory Mikaelian is excellent. Besides the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold. The coral is secured in the setting. This ring has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.

The pierced decorated mount displays a feature collet set cabochon cut coral.
The scroll design border around the coral is accented at the upper and lower border with a quatrefoil, flower motif.
The pierced decorated shaped shoulders are ornamented with a ball decoration at the junction with the plain hallmarked ring shank.
The interior of the shank is hallmarked with the 14k gold fineness mark 585.
