Born 1982 30 minutes outside of Istanbul Turkey, and migrated to Sydney, Australia in 1987 at the age of 5. My early teens, the love of music opened the doors to many of my passions and interests. From hip-hop music and its introduction to DJing and graffiti art to my later teens' exposure to the '90s rock scene and all the bands that roamed the Sunset Strip of Hollywood lead to the interest of Fashion and Tattoo art. After my schooling in Sydney, I then returned to Turkey to start my internship as a jeweller with my uncle who ran a successful jewelry manufacturing company, It was there that not only my love for design started but also gave me an interest in old civilizations which later had a big impact on my work. In my return to Australia with a new passion for Jewelry I started a 4-year apprenticeship, working full-time whilst studying at the Enmore Design Centre. After completing my apprenticeship, I continued to work with some of the best Jewelers in Sydney gaining experience whilst working on my on a signature style. Creating pieces for myself which got the attention of friends and family slowly eventuated into the creation of Harlin Jones which first started as a men's collection and now has also evolved to Mrs Jones, bespoke one-off women's fine jewelry. After years of working for some of the best Jewelers in Sydney whilst working on Harlin Jones simultaneously, I decided to go solo and work for myself. Creating new works for Harlin Jones and creating work for other designers. In 2019 an opportunity to move to New York presented itself. New York, being the birthplace of so much that inspires me, and having such a robust and vibrant arts scene made the decision to seize the opportunity and move myself and Harlin Jones here, an easy one. Since then I have run Harlin Jones from Brooklyn, New York, constantly working and evolving, pushing new ideas and creativity, constantly moving Harlin Jones forward. ______________________________________ This piece is part of the NYCJW HERE WE ARE Marketplace.
