This ring showcases an authentic Greek silver coin from the 4th century BC, featuring a depiction of Medusa, one of the three Gorgons. Medusa, a prominent figure in Greek mythology, held a fearsome reputation, known for her ability to petrify those who gazed upon her with a single glance. This terrifying power led to the widespread use of Gorgon images as protective symbols in ancient Greece, incorporated into various objects and structures.
The reverse side of the coin presents a palm tree, a motif often associated with victory and resilience in ancient Greek iconography.
The Gorgons, including Medusa, played a significant role in the early written records of Greek religious beliefs, such as those found in the works of Homer.
