A post war brutalist ring designed in Mexico by Reveriano Castillo.
Very interesting brutalist ring created in Mexico during the post-war period by Reveriano Castillo, back in the 1950. The statement ring has been masterfully hand-crafted in solid .925/.999 sterling silver with textured irregular finish and embellished with a natural earth mined specimen of blue azurite.
Reveriano Castillo
He was a member of the famous Castillo family of Taxco, Mexico, Reveriano was among the first silversmith apprentices at William Spratling (“The Father of Mexican Silver”) workshop, Las Delicias. He worked there from 1934 -1939 and executed many Spratling designs. In 1939, he joined Taller Borda that Hector Aguilar founded that year. Reveriano and his wife Maria moved on and worked for Los Castillo for ten years where Reveriano taught others, including Maria de Taxco, the art of developing enamel on silver. In 1952, he and Maria established their own workshop called, Reveri. Maria was the designer and Reveriano the silversmith. They created unique designs that were complex assemblies of small parts that featured braiding and weaving. Their later work is spare and smooth without much patterning occasionally incorporating niello inlay. Their work in jewelry included rings, bracelets, brooches that sometimes double as pendants, earrings, cufflinks, and pins. These often employ pre-Columbian and Aztec designs. The shop also produced some holloware as well as picture frames and spoons.
Azurite: Mount on top in multiples rustic prongs, with 1 natural specimen of purple-blue azurite with a weight of about 30 carats.
Weight: 24.95 Grams, (22.40 Dwt).
Size: 6.75 and may be resized up or down on special request.
Measurements: 29 mm by 28 mm (1.14 x 1.10 Inches) and raise 20 mm over the finger.
Hallmarks: Stamped with Mexican marks used between the 1948-1955; the maker's mark of the eagle with 36 associated to the atelier of Reveriano Castillo, the mark for the assay and warranty of the .925 sterling silver and signed as follow; "(EAGLE 36) REVERIANO CASTILLO STERLING .925".
Collateral: This Mexican brutalist ring by Reveriano Castillo, is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box.
Condition: The overall condition of this Mexican brutalist ring by Reveriano Castillo, is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the silver. The blue specimen is secured in the settings. This ring has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and the authenticity.
