About the Item

Created by the iconic Brazilian jeweler, Amsterdam Sauer, known for their use of extraordinary Brazilian gemstones, this magnificent ring features a nearly 10-carat oval-cut Brazilian rubellite tourmaline of the finest color and uncommon clarity. On either side of the impeccable rubellite are a pair of prong-set near-colorless (F) and eye-clean (VS1-SI1) brilliant-cut diamonds totaling approximately .40 carats. This fine red gem with slightly purple undertones has the coloring of a Burmese ruby with the clarity (almost) of an aquamarine; highly uncommon in a rubellite. The stone has been masterfully and symmetrically faceted for maximum brilliance and color. One of the qualities that makes a rubellite so special is that it retains its gorgeous rubellite-red color under all lighting conditions. So whether you're outside on a bright and sunny day at the nursery selecting ground covering to plant beside your flagstone path or you're inside a corporate office with less-than-flattering LED or fluorescent overhead lighting, this ring will always look spectacular. It is exactly the gem one would expect in a jewel from this esteemed Brazilian jewelry house. If you've explored rubellite rings, you may have come to the same conclusion as I: the majority are quite over-designed. A fine rubellite doesn't need a setting with rows upon rows of tsavorite garnets with their sharp sparkle or bars of black onyx or pillowy, quilted gold shoulders. What I love so much about this ring is the masterful simplicity. Simplicity is not an easy thing to acheieve; in the quest for simplicity one can land in the territory of "plain" and that's unlovely. If you look at this ring in profile, you will see how the shank splits open very briefly, seals itself together once again, and then divides into an elegant "Y." The prongs which hold each approximately 3 mm diamond are fantastically tall as they rise up from the shoulders of the ring. From no matter which angle you look at this ring, it's simply magnificent. This stunning ring is in excellent condition and could be mistaken for new but under the microscope when you look at the shank and the hidden portions of the setting, you can see that it has existed for longer than perhaps you first thought. I'm going to guestimate that this ring was created —entirely by hand, of course— in the 1960s or 1970s. The interior is marked for 18K and has the AS maker’s mark. The ring is currently a size 5 and could be resized by your local jeweler.
