About the Item
Eytan Brandes designed this ring as an homage to the Welbeck NCP, a high-rise, high-concept concrete parking structure in London's Soho that was built in the early 1970s. Currently being demolished to make room for a luxury hotel, the facade was a graphic landscape of huge, regularly-spaced triangles. This ring uses the triangle motif but introduces some chaos (you can't get more chaotic than demolition) to create a singularly abstract and eye-catching statement ring.
The creamy, perfect little triangle of blue is turquoise from the now-closed Sleeping Beauty Mine in Globe, Arizona. Eytan bought a large chunk of this gorgeous, matrix-free turquoise in the early 2000s. Over the years, he's been whittling away at it to the point where we're now down to a paltry smidgen of our original rock, and we now only use it for special projects, like this ring, which boasts a chewy 1.75 carat triangle-shaped slice of this cherished stone.
The mounting is a multi-elevation stack of three overlapping triangles, edged in diamonds in modern U-shape settings. The center triangle has slightly larger diamonds -- a subtle way of highlighting the center stone and creating depth. The 47 outer diamonds are about .005 carats each and the 29 inner diamonds are .009 carats each. The total diamond weight is 0.49 carats. All of the diamonds are clean, high-quality melee.
The sculpted band undulates from shoulder to shoulder and tapers from about 6mm to 3mm.
The inside of the band is signed by Eytan and includes the 18K purity marking.
The total weight of the ring is a substantial 11.7 grams, of which about a half a gram can be attributed to the stones.
