The Antique 19th Century Victorian Carved Cameo of Socrates in Turquoise is an absolute masterpiece of Cameo carving. The extraordinary image of Socrates is full of drama and intelligence and exudes magnificent power. His eyes radiate intelligence and extreme warmth, his hair and beard are extraordinary. The carving of the turquoise is the work of one of the finest of the early Cameo artisans. The image is deeply three dimensional and the representation of Socrates is a masterpiece in early gemstone carving. The image of Socrates is set in an elegant black onyx surround in a shield form design. The ring is 18 Karat Gold.
This neoclassical jewel is to be treasured by collectors of superb antique jewels, lovers of Socrates, the ancient Greeks, philosophy and philosophers, the classics, Victorian and Neoclassical jewels, and those who treasure the early Cameo masterpieces.
