About the Item
An impressive synthetic ruby and 0.78 carat diamond, 18 karat yellow gold and platinum set dress ring; part of our diverse antique jewelry and estate jewelry collections.
This fine and impressive antique synthetic ruby ring has been crafted in 18k yellow gold with a platinum setting.
The pierced decorated rectangular, cluster design is ornamented with a feature step cut synthetic ruby, four claw set in relief to the centre of the design.
The ruby is framed by fourteen platinum pave set eight-cut diamonds.
The pierced decorated, elevated ring shoulders are accented with a total of six platinum pave set eight-cut diamonds, integrating with the main setting and joining the plain shank.
The ring is hallmarked to the interior of the shank with the marks for 18k gold and platinum (18ct&PLAT).
This antique dress ring is supplied with an IDGL diamond grading report card.
*NOTE: Contrary to what many people may think, the word 'synthetic' does not mean fake when it comes to gemstones. In order for a material to be called 'synthetic' it must have a natural counterpart. A synthetic ruby will have the same chemical composition as a natural ruby and therefore have an almost identical appearance to the naked eye.
The first ruby formed by melting two smaller rubies together was in 1817, and the first microscopic crystals created from alumina in a laboratory in 1837.
Common practice was to set and enhance fine quality antique jewelry with vibrant and colorful synthetic stones.
Condition
This impressive cluster ring is fine quality set with a synthetic ruby and very well color matched, very high color graded old cut diamonds.
The ring is a very good gauge of gold and is in excellent condition with very clear hallmarks to the interior of the shank.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine example of ruby jewelry.
