About the Item
A gorgeous Victorian ring, made of silver and 18k gold, features enamel and diamond.
The ring has striking design owing to its elliptic shape and the bright blue enamel in the center. The diamonds are rose cut, bezel set in silver. Three diamonds staged in a vertical line in the center of the head. This arrangement is quite unusual for the modern jewelry and common for the Victorian era. The diamonds surrounding the enamel part create an airy looking halo. The shank is made of 18k gold and finely engraved with a beautiful floral pattern. This antique ring was crafted with a great attention to details which resulted in creating a true jewelry masterpiece of its time.
This classic antique ring is made of 18 karat (tested) yellow gold and silver, marquise shaped blue enamel and approximately 1.30 carats rose cut diamonds.
The Victorian cocktail ring measures 1 ½” x 7/8” x 3/8" (3.9 x 2 x 1 centimeters).
The ring is size 7.5-7.75, it is re-sizable.
The enamel ring weighs 13.9 grams.
Elegant, timeless, feminine and wearable, the ring is a great addition to your jewelry collection.
About Antique Rings:
The artistry of making antique rings reflects the era’s cultural influences. Most antique rings were created by skilled artisans who meticulously handcrafted each piece. This level of craftsmanship allowed for intricate designs that were often time-consuming to produce. This includes filigree work, hand-chasing, granulation (tiny metal bead-work), and hand-piercing to create delicate openwork patterns.
The emphasis on hand-made production is a hallmark of the era’s jewels. Antique rings were typically made from both gold and silver. The jewelers noticed that diamonds look whiter when set in white metal and not in yellow. The white gold was not invented back then yet and platinum was too hard for jewelry tools of that time. The only white metal available for jewelry making was silver. Therefore, during the antique period, most diamonds were set in silver.
Many Victorian-era rings feature intricate filigree work and delicate hand engraving. Setting styles, such as bezel and prong settings, are also different from what is used today. Romantic and sentimental motifs were widely applied to the rings’ look. They often carried symbolic meaning, with specific gemstones conveying messages of love, friendship, or mourning. Acrostic jewelry, where the first letter of each gemstone spelled out a message, was a common form of symbolic expression in antique jewelry. The natural aging process can contribute to their unique character and charm. Patina, which develops over time on metals, adds a sense of history and authenticity to antique pieces.
About Enamel Jewelry:
Enamel jewelry is beloved for its glossy, colorful appearance. Enamel has been used in jewelry making since the 1200s in China and Persia. It flourished again during the Art Nouveau era and had its comeback in the 1970s.
Multiple iconic pieces, such as Panthere De Cartier, Webb Kingdom Collection or the VCA pieces from 1920s are constantly sought after. Today enamel is also widely used in jewelry design.
Enamel is a specifically formulated glass powder, or a paste applied to a metal. After the application it gets heated up to 950°C.
Here are some of the most popular enameling techniques in jewelry making:
- Plique-a-Jour is the most difficult among enameling techniques. Plique-a-Jour was especially popular among such the Art Nouveau artist as Rene Lalique, Louis Comfort Tiffany and Peter Carl Faberge. The name can be translated from French as “to let light in”. The method allows light to go through the piece and make it glow. It’s done by applying the enamel powder in between of the little metal sections while using the foil to hold it together. After the enamel solidifies, the foil gets removed. This process creates a stained-glass appearance with delicate colors and lights coming from within.
- Cloisonné – or hard enamel – is done by layering enamel past the metal line. But first the design is stamped into a metal base. Then it gets polished down to the level of the metal. Due to the lengthier process, Cloisonné is considered more durable and higher quality.
- Meenakari -this technique begins with the design being engraved onto to the metal. Then the enamel fills the etchings. To achieve a vibrant color that Meenakari jewelry is famous for, the piece is polished with organic acids. A layer of the transparent enamel finalizes the process.

About Horovitz Jewelry:
The history of Horovitz jewelry is rooted in the beginning of the 20th century in Alexandria. At that time, one of the leading jewelry dealers in Egypt was Wolf Horovitz (1883-1959). Originally Romanian, Horovitz based his business Bijouterie Horovitz in Alexandria. His élite jewelry clientele included the Royal courts of King Fouad I and King Farouk I. Horovitz earned his reputation as a prominent jeweler by dealing with the most important houses in Paris. His son, Theodore Horovitz, started his career as a jewelry maker at the age of 17. He was working in his father’s shop. Eventually Theodore opened his own atelier and ended up creating jewels for Alexandria’s nobility and making a crown for the Queen. After the overthrow of King Farouk in 1952, Horovitz moved to Geneva. There he became one of the finest jewelers in the city: the colleagues called him “a legendary godfather to Geneva’s gem-dealing community”. Today Horovitz jewelry is a rare find and the House pieces are sought-after by the jewelry experts.
About Turquoise Jewelry:
Turquoise, with its vibrant blue-green hues, has been a cherished gemstone for centuries. In vintage jewelry design, turquoise holds a special place. The name “turquoise” came from the French pierre tourques and translates as a “Turkish stone.” The mineral was first transported to the west through Turkey from mines in the historical Khorasan province of Iran (Persia) and Afghanistan. Pre-Columbian Native Americans mined the stone throughout nowadays. In all these cultures turquoise was considered as a protective stone for warriors and symbolized the connection to heaven.
In the 17th century wearing turquoise jewelry was a must for a well-dressed gentleman. The stone was popular to the point when all the emeralds in the crown that Napoleon I gave Empress Marie Louise were replaced with Persian turquoise cabochons. Today Persian turquoise is beloved by jewelry aficionados for its warm, calming color. It may vary from sky-blue to green. As to the dark veins, it depends on your preferences and a certain piece. Some jewelry collectors prefer turquoise with a web pattern of matrix as it adds character to a piece.
The versatility of turquoise allows it to be used into various designs. Smooth cabochon cut turquoise is a common choice for vintage jewelry. Beadwork is also a popular technique that showcases turquoise's unique color. Turquoise is often associated with the American Southwest, where Native American artisans have been using the stone for centuries. Vintage turquoise jewelry...
