An antique ruby, diamond, and yellow gold ring, comprising one cushion shaped ruby, two round cut rubies, and four old cut diamonds, in 18 karat yellow gold.
My favourite thing about this Victorian 18K Yellow Gold Ruby and Diamond Ring, is the luxurious red of the rubies. What’s yours? Perhaps the sparkling diamonds? Or the scrolled gallery?
This Victorian ring is set to the centre with a chunky cushion shaped ruby. The ruby is a deep, strong red hue, a luxurious and sought-after pigeon blood colour. A pair of smaller round cut rubies sit at either end of the ring, with the same luxurious hue. The rubies are well-matched with one another, with good clarity. The rubies are interspersed by 2 pairs of chunky old cut diamonds. The diamonds are bright, white, sparkly, and well-matched with one another. The brightness of the diamonds helps the rubies to appear even more sumptuous. The stones are raised on a hand-carved scrolling gallery, a sought-after motif in late Victorian and Edwardian rings. The carved shoulders of the ring taper to a plain, polised band of yellow gold. To the inside of the band there is remnants of a personal inscription. The ring is in great condition, with some light abrasion to the facet edges of the rubies visible under 10x magnification, as would be expected in a piece of this age. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The ring measures 5.5mm long, and the setting measures 17mm wide. The ring rises 3.5mm off the hand, and the band measures 1.6mm wide at the back.
