A lovely and romantic ring, this elegant Toi et Moi (translating to "you and me" in French) ring has wonderful quality cushion shaped old mine cut diamonds - perfect as an engagement or anniversary ring. Crafted of yellow gold testing as 18K, the ring features 2 super fiery old mine cut diamonds in platinum bezel settings. The gently offset design is very elegant and the ring is very well made. I estimate the total carat weight to be approximately .66 carats, or so. Each of these antique diamonds has the wonderful fire, brilliance and character I look for in old cut diamonds - along with beautifully clean clarity, even under magnification. One diamond measures approximately 4.6 x 4 mm and the other is approximately 4.5 x 4 mm, for an estimated .37 and .29 carats, respectively. (one has a chunkier, deeper cut, though they look nearly the same size when looking down upon them) Both face up clean, bright and extremely lively; under magnification one has a hint of warmth and a larger open culet. I see no nicks, chips or scratches - both are original and remain in undamaged condition. Their bezel settings show a little expected wear, with some smoothing to the milgrain edging. The galleries of the diamond's settings have lovely open work that resembles a honeycomb design, that allows lots of light into the diamonds. Including the offset gold shoulders, the face of the ring measures approximately 16 x 17.6 mm, with a rise off the finger of approximately 4.89 mm. Curving gracefully, the lower shoulders have a dainty linear carved detail that leads into the sturdy gold band. Still substantial and with no signs of having been sized in the past, the band remains in excellent condition. Inside is a worn mark of "18ct" (indicating it was made in the UK, in the Art Deco period, based on the design and mark); I've also tested it to confirm the gold's purity. If you would like to add a personal inscription there is quite a bit of room inside the band. On my scale, the finished weight of the ring is a nice 2.84 grams. Fitting as a size 7 (it's just over a 6.5 on my ring mandrel but has a more generous fit) it can be sized up or down within reason by a good jeweler. (the "toi et moi" style ring first gained a lot of popularity as an engagement ring in 1796 when Napoleon presented Josephine with a Sapphire and Diamond toi et moi style ring.)
