About the Item

A fine Australian goldfields period ring, signed G. R. Addis, crafted in yellow gold. The ring is designed with a central emerald-cut emerald of vibrant green colour, flanked by old mine-cut diamonds, and further accented by two rectangular step-cut emeralds alternating with additional old mine-cut diamonds. The emeralds display natural inclusions typical of Colombian origin, while the old mine-cut diamonds together weigh approximately 0.80 carats, with warm tone and bright brilliance. The stones are mounted in finely carved gold claw settings, in keeping with the late Victorian–Edwardian taste adapted to the Australian goldfields aesthetic. Born in Melbourne, he worked in Launceston, Tasmania, before moving to Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, during the 1890s gold rush. His jewellery catered to the prosperous mining community, often using imported precious stones mounted in locally sourced gold. Signed examples are rare and represent the flourishing of Australian colonial and goldfields jewellery.
