About the Item

A Victorian-era engagement ring featuring a remarkable 1.75-carat old mine cut diamond. The cushion-shaped gemstone displays the distinctive charm of antique cutting styles, with softly rounded facets and a deep profile. The diamond is set in silver, a traditional choice of the period that enhances the gem’s natural glow. The ring’s setting with split shoulders is an authentic 19th-century craftsmanship: subtle, balanced, and built to last. It’s an amazing engagement ring that was created to be passed down by generations. This classic Victorian ring is made of 14 karat yellow gold and silver and featuring an approximately 1.75-carat hand-faceted old mine cut diamond (O-P color, VS2 clarity). Measurements: 3/8" x 3/8" (1 x 1 centimeters). The ring is size 7 1/4, and it is re-sizable. The ring weighs 2.3 grams. About Victorian jewelry: Victorian jewelry, dating from 1837 to 1901, takes its name from Queen Victoria, who reigned during this period. Her influence was pivotal in shaping the jewelry styles of the era, leaving a lasting impact on the designs and trends that emerged. Different materials, gemstones and techniques belong specifically to each section of the era. Some styles though remained in favor longer than during one period. For instance, hair jewelry made its way from Romantic through Grand period. Snake and animal motifs were also in demand throughout the era. Early Victorian jewelry As to the Queen influence, Romantic Period jewelry had well pronounced sentimental vibes. It was the time when young Queen Victoria was in love with her husband, Prince Albert. And the whole nation admired their relationship. Cameos, matching brooches, miniature portraits and lockets reflected the likeness of loved ones. After Albert’s passing in 1861, the Early Victorian Period ended, and The Grand era began. Grand Victorian jewelry After the incandescent bulb invention in 1870s, diamond jewelry started thriving like never before. Diamonds, being placed under the electric light, revealed their dazzling nature and looked truly fascinating. Besides Victorian diamond jewelry, mourning jewelry massively gained its popularity, reflecting the Queen grieving state after Albert’s passing. Opulence and larger scale prevailed in the Grand Victorian jewels style. It was the time of booming economy, and makers picked up the trend. Late Victorian The Late Victorian jewelry makers stepped away from creating massive, heavy pieces. Women lifestyle changed towards independence. They got involved in new activities such as bicycling and tennis. To keep up with the new clientele’s needs, Late Victorian pieces were lighter and more wearable. Attached safety pins became very handy and this element is the era’s design feature.

About Platinum Jewelry: Purity and durability – these two characteristics define platinum from the rest of the precious metals. From the chemical perspective, platinum is one of the most stable elements. The white color of platinum comes from its purity. While white gold contains an alloy of zinc, copper and nickel, platinum has a pure 95-98% composition. In fact, white gold is yellow gold mixed with other metals and then rhodium plated. Platinum is durable and denser than gold. Platinum jewelry lasts for ages and can be passed down from generation to generation. Platinum’s purity and strength make it relevant to the idea of eternal love. It’s an embodiment of strong feelings and rarity. That’s why platinum engagement rings and platinum wedding bands have been popular ever since. Platinum is also a symbol of status and reputation. It looks subtle and not as obvious as yellow gold. Gemstones set in platinum are not distracting because of the metal’s neutral appearance. The color, brilliance and vibrance of diamonds and colored stones are amplified next to platinum “true white”. About Vintage Jewelry: Vintage jewelry is something we can talk about for days. Since the subject is that big and has multiple aspects to discuss, we’d like to focus on the most important parts of it. So, what is vintage...
