About the Item
A vintage sapphire and diamond 18 karat yellow gold and platinum snake ring, circa 1960.
This exceptional ring is designed as a pair of snakes, both excellently hand carved, one head being set with a round cut deep blue sapphire of 0.15 carats approximately with a single cut diamond accent either side, the other head being set with an old cut diamond of 0.25 carats approximately together with its side stone diamonds.
Partially stamped 'PLAT' to the outside of the reverse of the ring.
Snake are a timeless motif in jewellery as a result of the entwined snake ring that Queen Victoria received when she was engaged to Prince Albert, her particular ring being set to its centre with her birthstone - an emerald.
The ring took its inspiration from the Romans who believed that the continuous snake signified everlasting love.
The ring is currently a UK finger size P (USA size 8) but can be re-sized for a perfect fit.
Condition - Overall the condition of the ring is good, with some abrasions to the surface of the gold in keeping with its general age, one of the single cut diamond accents to the side of the sapphire set snake head is chipped. However this is only noticeable under a 10 x magnification - so is not visible to the naked eye.

This antique gemstone serpent ring has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 18k gold.
The ring is supplied with an independent diamond grading report card.

** Due to the nature of this inscription this piece may have been engraved to commemorate the 1907 European Rowing Championships which were noted to be held in Strasbourg; the coxswain of many Belgian gold medals for this event was Rodolphe Colbaert.

This stunning, fine and impressive antique Victorian ring has been crafted in 18k yellow gold.
The ring has a substantial, multi-strand form, modelled in the shape of two intertwined snakes*.
The serpents' heads are independently ornamented with a 0.63ct oval faceted cut sapphire and a 0.62ct Old European pear cut diamond.
Each snake's head is further ornamented with two Dutch cut diamonds representing the eyes; this indicates the high quality of the piece.
The multi strand shank form integrates into the design, forming both the head and tail of each snake.
The interior of the shank is hallmarked with the gold guarantee mark (crown), the 18k gold mark (18), the Birmingham Assay Office hallmark (anchor) and the date letter for 1900 (a).
This impressive ring is supplied with an IDGL diamond grading report certificate for the feature stone, in addition to an IDGL diamond and gemstone grading report card for the sapphire and supporting stones.
