About the Item

Late Victorian Ceylon Sapphire Rose Cut Diamond Cluster Ring, Circa 1880 – Nearly 7 Carats This exceptional late Victorian cluster ring showcases the enduring elegance of 19th-century craftsmanship, centered by an exquisite 4.57 carat Ceylon sapphire of rare beauty. The oval sapphire, measuring 10.00 × 7.54 × 3.85 mm, exhibits the serene and luminous character for which unheated Sri Lankan stones are celebrated. Under indoor light, it leans toward an ethereal periwinkle; in sunlight, it blooms into a vivid royal blue—always without extinction, always arresting. The color is closest to Pantone 7682 C in softer light, shifting toward Pantone 288 C in bright conditions. Encircling the sapphire is a glittering halo of twelve antique rose cut diamonds, together weighing approximately 2.40 carats. Their bright white shimmer contrasts beautifully with the saturated blue of the center stone, amplifying its presence and glow. The total gem weight is just under 7 carats. The gemstones are set in silver over 14k yellow gold, a construction typical of the late Victorian era (circa 1880), marrying the cool gleam of silver with the warmth and strength of gold. The mount features refined handwork, with open-backed settings to allow maximum light return. A thoughtful, period-appropriate adaptation has been made to the interior of the shank: two small gold beads have been soldered inside, subtly balancing the weight of the sapphire and preventing the ring from tipping on the hand. Currently sized at 8.5, it will comfortably fit fingers from 8.5 to 9.25 thanks to the open-backed setting and absence of an undercarriage. Gemological Note: Our Certified Professional Gemologist has examined the sapphire under magnification and found its appearance consistent with unheated Ceylon (Sri Lanka) origin. Unheated sapphires of this quality, size, and condition are increasingly scarce, especially in antique mounts retaining their original diamonds. Period: Late Victorian, circa 1880 Materials: 4.57 ct unheated Ceylon sapphire; approx. 2.40 ctw rose cut diamonds; silver over 14k yellow gold Size: 8.5 (fits up to 9.25) Condition: Excellent antique condition with minimal wear; minor antique patina to metal consistent with age. This is a jewel of timeless proportion—substantial yet refined, rare yet wearable, offering the best of Victorian romance and gemological pedigree.

Imperial Topaz Pearl Gold Ring Certified Untreated, London, 1843 Size 10.5
Located in Northampton, MA
This vivid pink imperial topaz ring -hand-crafted in England over 180 years ago- is one of the rarest and most unapologetically regal rings you will ever encounter. A size 10.5 ring, it was originally created for a man. But could of course be worn by anyone today. In the era this ring was created, men wore pearls. And no man would feel uncomfortable wearing a flashy pink gemstone because there is absolutely no other gemstone that looks like this. Topaz is a common gemstone and is typically white. It is irradiated to achieve its popular blue and pink colors. But naturally pink topaz is not common. It is in fact exceedingly rare, considerably rarer than diamonds. And this particular natural pink topaz gem is vividly saturated. It flashes purple. Having reviewed images of the pink imperial topaz necklace and earrings King Charles presented his wife, Queen Camilla...
