About the Item
A Georgian hardstone cameo ring, the oval-shaped cameo depicting the profile of a patrician, rub-over set within a yellow gold mount with ridged detail to the rim, to a tapered yellow gold shank, circa 1820, the head measuring 25 x 19mm, finger size J, gross weight 7.5 grams.
This Georgian ring is in fine condition for its age. Unmarked, tested as 18ct gold.
This marvellous Georgian ring comes from the collection of Bentley
Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. This ring features a wonderful hardstone cameo with the profile of an Ancient Roman patrician set in a bright yellow gold mount. This ring reflects the early nineteenth century trend towards neoclassical motifs, which began around the time of the French Revolution. Cameos were particularly popular in this period: Napoleon had a set of cameo and yellow gold jewellery made for Empress Josephine in 1804.
