About the Item

Prolific jewelry designer Ilias Lalaounis was born in Athens, Greece in 1920. Descending from a family of goldsmiths, he apprenticed under his uncle's jewelry firm to become a master craftsman. In 1941 he took over the family business, and later developed a vision for his signature style during the 1950s. Inspired by his passion for prehistoric motifs, artifacts, and Greek mythology, he studied traditional methods of artistry, branching out on his own in the 1960s to form his own company. In the decades that followed, his work blossomed into a myriad of fine jewelry collections that earned widespread appeal and designer status. Adored by celebrities and the fashion elite, designs by LALAoUNIS remain in high demand among collectors and jewelry lovers in the modern day! This fabulous Estate ring by LALAoUNIS is a spectacular example of the designer's signature style! Part of the "Animal Head Collection," the ring has a 3-dimensional design crafted in vibrant 18kt yellow gold. It depicts a stately ram, whose head rests prominently at the top, its body wrapping around to form the band. Three luscious rubies line the top of the ram's neck, with each graduating stone resting individually in a raised bezel setting. The richly colored stones add a wonderful pop of color to the design! The ram has ruby eyes, and a Single Cut diamond is set atop the gold collar around its neck. Textured detail covers the ram's face, neck, and tail, extending to a smooth gold band underneath. When worn, the ring makes a striking statement piece that is both luxurious and daring. Stamped inside the shank is the authentic signature hallmark symbol, and the markings "750" and "A21 GREECE". Perfect for the fashion-forward woman or the LALAoUNIS collector, this magnificent ring is a rare and special find! The ram's head rests approximately 1/2" above the finger when worn. The surface of the ring measures 3/4" at the widest point.
