About the Item

Period: 18th century Measuraments: 3,2 cm x 2,1 cm Ring size: 8  Weight: 11,9 gr The 18th-century Georgian ring is made of silver and gold and studded with rose-cut diamonds which, in addition to forming the double outer border, also form the image of an urn standing out above a dark blue glass. The peculiar choice to represent an urn is given by the commemorative function of the ring, it is in fact an iconography that spread widely starting from the mid-18th century thanks to the renewed enthusiasm and interest in ancient Greek and Roman art. The ring is also embellished with a fine scrollwork of the stem, which gives further decorativism and refinement to the object, as does the reverse, where engravings with floral motifs can be seen that recall the concept of the Memento Mori, or the transience of life.
