About the Item
A rare and wonderful antique Victorian Turquoise Moonstone Snake Ring. The snake is depicted circling the globe or an egg.
The snake is set with beautiful Persian Turquoise cabochons. The globe is either moonstone or white agate. The gold is a beautiful 9 Karat Gold. The design work on the snake ring is dramatic and very special. The snake's mouth is open - creating a magical nature inspired jewel.
It is extremely rare to find these early snake jewels and we are so excited when we do! And snake jewelry is all the rage today. The snake motif has been in use since antiquity. Eternal love, protection and perpetual regeneration are just a few of the myriad of meanings attributed to the snake. Queen Victoria chose a snake ring to mark her engagement to Albert. Consequently, the snake became a popular Victorian romantic image used quite frequently in jewelry.
It has come to symbolize sexuality, rebirth, wisdom and love.
The snake and globe dates to the Victorian period, circa 1880. The ring shank is a later addition.
The globe is 13mm (1/2 inch) wide and 12mm tall.
The ring is currently a size 6 US (L 1/2 UK) and can be easily resized if desired
The ring is 9 Karat Gold.

An stunning and oh so Romantic Antique Victorian Ring with a Rose Cut Diamond, a halo of Pearls and two Persian Turquoise gems. The combination of Diamond, Pearls and Turquoise in this beautifully made ring is an absolute delight. The Rose Cut Diamond is surrounded by a halo of silvery white pearls. On the sides of the halo are two Persian Turquoise cabochons. The ring creates a flower, Forget-Me-Not effect with the gems. The jewels are set in 14 Karat Yellow Gold with a lovely scroll motif along the shank. One of my favorite rings. The ring dates to the Victorian period - circa 1850 - 1900. The ring is a magnificent wedding ring or engagement ring, as part of a stack, or a ring to be worn every day or at the most glamorous affairs.
