About the Item
This late Georgian / early Victorian 18K rose gold ring holds a rectangular-cut deep brown sardonyx gemstone that has been artfully carved -or etched, rather- to depict a horse trotting among the tall grass. Rendered with superb artistry and skill, this intaglio honors one of England's most beloved animals.
Almost certainly of English origin, this antique treasure is in excellent condition for its age. The carved intaglio is in excellent condition, free from fractures or chips. The stone is held in place by popular mounting techniques of the era with intaglio stones and features several flat prongs on all sides of the stone holding it in place. It measures 13.33mm tall, 9.93mm wide, and with a thickness of approximately 3mm.
The over two-hundred-year-old ring is perfectly wearable today, by anyone of any gender. It's currently a size 8 and could be resized by your local jeweler.
