André Vassort (active between 1955 and 1990) embodies the excellence of 20th-century French goldsmithing. His workshop, located on Rue Sainte-Anne in Paris, was one of the most renowned on Place Vendôme, collaborating closely with the greatest jewelry houses: Van Cleef
Arpels, Cartier, Boucheron, Mauboussin, and Chaumet.
Vassort started his career as a painter, but he eventually turned to jewelry design in the 1950s.
Vassort's jewels were often inspired by nature, and he was particularly known for his use of semi-precious stones and enameling. Vassort excelled in particular in working with gold, which he transformed into a living material. The ring presented here is a testament to this virtuosity: the finely chiseled texture of the gold, both sophisticated and organic, is emblematic of his workshop's signature.
This ring, reflects the aesthetic of Boucheron's Serpent Bohème collection.
The Atelier closed in the early 1990s. By that time Vassort had established himself as one of the most prominent French jewelry producers of the mid-late twentieth century. His legacy lives on through his stunning jewelry designs, which are still highly coveted by collectors today. Much of his jewelry was not marked, however sometimes his mark appear as it does on this ring making part of jewelry history.
