About the Item
This ring was created around 1800-1810. It is made out of 15 karat yellow gold. The ring is finely engraved with scrollwork, leaves and flowers. The large oval purple glass cast of an antique intaglio was most probably crates by James Tassie ( 1735-1799 ). The Tassie depicts an allegory of melancholia, melancholy. We see a seated woman with aveil and a long pleated gown resting her head on her knie. In the background we see three shields, the symbol of lost battles. underneath the seated figure we can make out a so far unidentified inscription.
The ring size and it's weight are to be confirmed.
