About the Item
This substantial ring was created in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century out of solid 18K yellow gold. The ring is set with a three quarter portrait of a gentleman wearing an elegant wig, chemise, foulard and waistcoat. The three quarter portrait is painted in grisaille on porcelain. The miniature is framed by a gold laurel wreath - this indicates the merits and social importance of the sitter. Miniature and laurel wreath are under the original glass. The ring shoulders are finely carved. The ring has been preserved in fine condition and shows little signs of wear.
