About the Item

The ring, made of iron and dated around the first decade of the nineteenth century, has an engraved family crest of difficult attribution. The signet rings represent one of the most ancient and widespread types of jewelry, characterized by their continuity of use throughout the ages. Traditionally, such rings served to replace the personal signature: in antiquity they were used to authenticate official documents, while in the early nineteenth century they were frequently used to signet the sealing wax of letters, embodying the symbol of the noble family belonging, as a distinctive element and reason for prestige. Period: 1810 ca. Ring size:10 ¾ Dimensions: 19 x 16,40 mm
