Art Nouveau Jadeite Jade Ring Deep Floral Green in Rich Floral Setting

About the Item

"Floral" jade is sometimes used to describe what, in emeralds, is often called "Jardin;" French for "garden." Floral jade is not clear, glassy jade but rather it features a rich "tapestry" of grain. Here, the several different colors of green seem to be knitted or felted together to create a green jade stone that really cannot be named. It's not a sage green, it's not a forest green and it's not an apple green. It's many greens, all together, dense, verdant, lush. Featuring a certified natural and untreated Burmese jadeite jade cabochon measuring approximately 26.8mm north to south and 15.4mm west to east, the ring is created from what I believe to be gilded silver. I would have to scratch deep to determine the metal with 100% accuracy. The metalwork is excellent, with deeply carved shoulders featuring a symmetrical and elegant foliage motif. It is strikingly Art Nouveau in both design and materials. After all, the essence of Art Nouveau was to create —entirely by hand– something beautiful from more humble materials; allowing "ordinary" people to experience extraordinary design. That was the original intent, anyway. But it didn't take five minutes into the movement for sapphires, natural pearls, spectacular gemstones like jade and rubies to appear. This is an extremely pleasing jade cabochon ring. The mounting is gorgeous and the jade, though dense, is a very fine, old-mine stone. And as such, it possesses a kind of "life" to its coloring, appearing one shade of green in the morning, another in the afternoon, and still another by sunset. Jade is an ever-changing stone, which is why it's my favorite gem. I am a second-generation collector of jade and I still find it endlessly beautiful and fascinating. This ring is currently a size 8 ½ and could be resized by your local jeweler. It ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the jade is natural and untreated jadeite from Burma.
